God calling

All your life you’ve been getting ready for now. The light is probably dawning on you – what God is calling you to be and do – and you could easily feel overwhelmed. But God is the source of the light, and God is behind the dawning. There will be provision. Go ahead.

God is calling

sometimes we know deep down in our heart that God is calling us. He may be calling us to something that we really don’t want to do. It does remind me of Moses who certainly had no idea about freeing the people of Israel. Sometimes what he’s calling us to do seems something that we are incapable of. But there is nothing that we cannot do with God. Listen for that voice. Hear God calling. And answer.

God speaks

God Speaks

god_speaks_sunset

When I was a child
I heard God calling
and freely, I answered
For I knew that God
would want to talk
to me and I to Him

The teen years
made God more distant
for I had learned the rules
that those in charge
were supposed to speak
for me

but God spoke again
in the darkness
in moments of fear
and trial
and I answered
in spite of the rules

God spoke
in the halls of ivy
for his voice was there
in the loneliness, triumphs
and testing of my self.

his voice grew faint
during the breeding years
for children’s voices
were more easily heard.

but God was there
waiting for me
longing for the day
when my ears
would once again
tune in.

God called and broke
thru the barriers
I erected to keep Her out

She spoke in words too
loud to miss
and I listened

Now God speaks
in many ways
in other’s voices, deeds                                                                                                                    and in silence

And I have learned
to hear each voice
that she uses

Light/Darkness

light shines

When it is dark enough, you can see the stars.   Charles A. Beard

This quote reminds me of one from my journal of saved quotes.

Now that my house has burned down I can see the moon more clearly.  From the movie Hiroshima

Both of these quotes remind us that light penetrates darkness. In the worst of times there is hope.

How can I keep from singing

I have always been move by music. The words of this hymn have always meant a lot to me and the music is fun to sing.

My life flows on in endless song;

Above earth’s lamentation,
I hear the sweetdagger, tho’ far-off hymn

That hails a new creation;
Thro’ all the tumult and the strife

I hear the music ringing;
It finds an echo in my soul—

How can I keep from singing?
What tho’ my joys and comforts die?

The Lord my Saviour liveth;
What tho’ the darkness gather round?

Songs in the night he giveth.
No storm can shake my inmost calm

While to that refuge clinging;
Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth,

How can I keep from singing?
I lift my eyes; the cloud grows thin;

I see the blue above it;
And day by day this pathway smooths,

Since first I learned to love it,
The peace of Christ makes fresh my heart,

A fountain ever springing;
All things are mine since I am his—

How can I keep from singing?

Scoff? a word that sounds awful

My daily meditation will be on the Psalms for a while. I hope you find this meaningful.

Psalm 1 verse 1 from the NRSV

Happy are those
    who do not follow the advice of the wicked,
or take the path that sinners tread,
    or sit in the seat of scoffers;

I was struck by the word “scoffers.” How often do we put down the ideas of others without really considering them. Sometimes we are not rejecting the ideas but the people themselves. We do not even hear them out or consider what they would mean. Think about this attitude and hear others out.

scoff

Gracious Lord, help us to listen with open mind and heart and not scoff but HEAR. AMEN
