No worries!

Worry does us no good at all and yet most of us do worry. Jesus tells us not to worry.

Matthew 6:27-29

27 And can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life?[a] 28 And why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they neither toil nor spin, 29 yet I tell you, even Solomon in all his glory was not clothed like one of these.

We need to do as Martin Luther says: “Pray and let God worry.”

Gracious Lord, remind us to turn out worries over to you and then let them go. AMEN

Being a parent is one of the hardest jobs on earth. It is also one of the most important. What can matter more than shaping the lives of others. God sees us as his children and wants us to see what a loving parent looks like. Follow God’s example and love your children with all your heart.

Loving father, you remind us that you love us. Help us to share our own love and yours with our children. AMEN

We cannot stay silent!

martinlutherkingjr1-2xIt is so easy to remain silent. Too often we are with people that we like a someone says something that we violently disagree with. It is much easier to remain silent than to cause an upheaval. But silence can be damning. It reflects back onto us. There are times when we must speak up. If we don’t nip the evil ideas in the bud they grow to proportions that we cannot stop. Speak up!

Great Lord, you expect us to counter evil and stop it before it grows. Help us have the courage to do so. AMEN

The path to peace

The people who have taught us the truth of this statement come to mind quite easily. Jesus, Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Jr. It is obvious that they understood this. All of them changed the world in amazing ways by following the path of peace. It should be obvious to us that walking the path of peace changes things for the better. We should do the same.

lead by example

Loving God, your son showed us the path of peace. Others followed his example. Help us to do so too. AMEN

We fail to see the wondrous things around us. We race through each day and don’t see the beauty. We talk on the phone and spend time texting. We don’t stop.

It is time to see the beauty in the world. It is time to enjoy it.

In church we often hear the word evangelism. There are those who call it the E word and run whenever someone whats them to go out and do it. We are thinking of this word in the wrong way. To go out and tell people about our faith is fine but to live out that faith speaks volumes. We need to live so that people ask “why are they so kind and loving?” This is what will draw people to Christ.

Lord Jesus, you showed us how to live. You drew people by your works. Help us to do the same. AMEN

Take time

We all need down time. We have to have time to think, to just sit, to listen for God. God has told us that He speaks in silence. Time in silence, doing nothing, is not time wasted. It is time to “be.”

Take time to sit in a chair with your hands rested on the arms and let silence wash over you. We all need that.

Intimate God, you wait so patiently for us to acknowledge your presence. Help us to take the time to hear you. AMEN

Follow Jesus

No longer drink only water, but use a little wine for the sake of your stomach and your frequent ailments. ——————-Holy Bible 1 Timothy 5:23

See! The Bible tells us that it is ok to drink wine. I’m sure that Timothy means for us to do this in moderation. There are many things in the Bible that we can read as rules. Some think that drinking alcohol is wrong. If it is for them then they should abstain. The important thing to remember is that we can never be good enough to follow God on our own. Following rules will not work. It is not a bad thing to do but it will not save us. We are called to follow the path of Jesus the very best we can. We need to continue to try…always.

No Judging!

It is so easy for us to judge others. Gossip is usually some form of judgement. Often the things we are quickest to judge in others is the one we don’t see in ourselves. We have not walked in another person’s shoes. We don’t know the whole story. No judgement!

Forgiving God, remind us that we too are often wrong and quick to judge. Help us to walk with compassion and love. AMEN

Can you see through “God Glasses?”

I believe in miracles. I believe they can’t be explained. Science will try to find logical answers. Sometimes they find an explanation that suits them. I have mentioned before that Madeleine L’Engle says “a coincidence is a miracle in which God prefers to remain anonymous.” I tend to see God in the coincidences that occur in my life. I try to see life through “God Glasses.” I try to see the wonderful things that happen and trust that they are miracles. Can you?
