Fear not

Fear is not an unknown emotion to us. —–Neil Armstrong

All of us have known fear and we will know it again until life ends. It is what we do with the fear that matters. We may not be able to think it away or push it down into some dark place. The trick is to keep on in spite of it and hold on to God for support. I love the part of the 23rd psalm that says “thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.” Comfort is available to us. We just have to ask.

Ever present God, you are there waiting on us to call. Comfort us in our times of fear. AMEN

Gossip

I am sure that gossip is evil. I am also sure that gossip is irresistible. When we hear something juicy about someone we just can’t wait to pass it on. Does it make us feel better? Do we seem less vulnerable ourselves? Somehow we do think that putting someone else down makes us better than…..but we are not.

We are called to love one another, have compassion and be kind. We are not called to gossip.

 

Loving God, forgive our sharing of gossip and remind us that we too are not perfect. AMEN

Savor each moment

We miss so much every day. We look at things but we really don’t see. Today it rained and I didn’t take time to sit and watch it. I didn’t see the leaves with rain drops on them. I didn’t see the earth greening.

Life is a series of moments. Be sure to see them.

Choose love

I think that the quote above makes if perfectly clear why Jesus made the choice he did. It did not please some of his disciples. They had a different plan. Jesus makes it clear with his ministry that his is the right choice. Power is an idol. Don’t make the mistake of choosing it.

Hope

Hope is one of the most precious things that God has given us. We need hope to get up each day. We use it to start a new project or a new job. We have hope. Thank God for it.

God of compassion, thank you for the gift of hope. AMEN

Parable = story

Jesus tells us stories so our lives will be transformed. —————-Michael Williams

Jesus told parables. We call them parables but they are stories. The stories that he told made sense to his audience. Stories help us to see things differently. They don’t have easy answers. They make us thinks. It is also easy for us to put ourselves in the story. Read the parables!

Forget rules

The truth is a person and that person is Jesus. Jesus is not a set of rules. We humans have tried to turn our faith, our belief, our Christianity into a set of rules. A set of do’s and don’ts. Jesus said love one another. Love God and your neighbor. That’s all it takes. If we could just do those things life would be amazing.

Extraordinary God, help us to see the truth and follow it. AMEN

Pottery is fired to make it beautiful

God is busy shaping us into the best that we can be. Sometimes we forget that growing can bring pain. Pottery is fired in a kiln to make the beautiful vase that we see. Life may not be easy but God has promised to be with us.

All the news about the world around us is so bad. There is so much evil and pain. I Don’t know if it really is worse or just that we learn about it so much quicker. Sometimes it is hard to believe that there is any hope for mankind. Yet good things still happen and babies are born. I guess God hasn’t given up on us yet.

Fertilize your faith!

Who plants a seed beneath the sod and waits to see believes in God–——-anon

My grandmother loved flowers. Her garden was wonderful. She worked in it every day…fertilizing, pulling weeds….anything to help the flowers grow. She also spent time every day reading her Bible and praying. She watered her faith the way she tended her garden.

Our faith will not grow if it is not nurtured.

Amazing God, remind us to fertilize out faith by reading the Bible and praying. AMEN
