Love/Hate

_lovehateHate is a very big, very hungry thing with sharp teeth. It will eat up your whole heart and leave no room left for love.

From the movie Amish Grace

Sometimes people hurt us. Sometimes they damage us so much that anger and hate enter our hearts. Forgiveness doesn’t seem possible. The problem is that the hate is in our hearts not in the heart of the person who inflicted that pain. It is us who have the monster eating away….limiting our ability to have any other emotion. We have to cast it out or we risk the love we deserve. This is not easy but by putting aside the hurt and forgiving we can let love cast out the thing eating us from the inside.

God of love, help us to throw out the hatred and anger and replace it with love. Be with us each day as we strive to let it go and give us strength to move from hate to love. AMEN

God is with us

“Now that my house is burned down I can see the moon more clearly”

 From the movie Hiroshima

moonTragedies happen. Life can jump up and slap us in the face.  One moment things can be fine and the next we discover that a loved one has died or, as in the case of the quote, our house has burned down. Somehow amidst the grief and pain we do eventually find that God is with us and we can see the moon and it is beautiful. God didn’t promise us a perfect life but he did promise to be with us every moment of it.

Prayer: Lord of love, we thank you for staying at our side in the tragedies we experience. Hold us, comfort us, dry our tears and show us how to see the moon.

a beginning

I have always been interested in quotes. I actually have a quote book where I write down the quotes that have meaning for me. I get quotes from everywhere, books, movies, TV programs and people. I find that exploring others thoughts is meaningful. The quotes inspire me to find God in unusual places. Each day I will use a quote, add a reflection on it and finish with a prayer. I hope that both quotes and thoughts will have meaning for others.
