Thank you

Can’t we, when we are working and drop something, instead of getting mad about it, say thank you God for giving me the strength to pick this up? –———–Re. Earl H. Merritt

We spend a lot of time asking God for things. We beg for healing, money, friends. How much time do we spend thanking him? We are so blessed. Having lived in a third world country, I know just how much more we have than most people. Yet we are always asking for more. Give thanks every day for the things you have.

Thank you, God, for all the gifts you have given us. Forgive us when we forget to see the bounties of this life. AMEN

Families are the compass

compassIn today’s world the family is at risk. Too many are floundering. We have lost our center. Families are the moral compass that holds us together.  Too many are floundering. We need the support and guidance that the family provides. We also need the love. We must teach about the love of God and his importance to our lives. Parents have to be a living example of that love.

God our Father, we need your help, guidance and love to be the parents you have called us to be. Be with us each and every day. AMEN

Be thankful

Who is wise? He that learns from everyone.

Who is powerful? He that governs his passions.

Who is rich? He that is content.

Who is that? Nobody. ————————Benjamin Franklin

How content are we? Franklin says that no one is content and he may be right. How grateful are we for everything that we have? Do we appreciate the things we have instead of longing for what we don’t have?

We have to spend time thanking God for all the gifts of this life. Make a list and thank God each day. Use the list for your prayers.

thankful heart

Giving God, we are so blessed but we don’t take time to give thanks. Remind us of all the good in our lives and help us to be thankful. AMEN

I don’t know

I am not young enough to know everything. ————-Oscar Wilde

This “tongue in cheek” quote by Wilde is completely true. When we are young we think that we know everything. It is a shock when we discover that we know nothing. Science would like us to think that we can know everything but even science is not omnipotent. Science scoff at those of us who want to believe more but it is what I choose. God is omnipotent. He does know everything. His wisdom is beyond our understanding.

knowledge speaks

Omnipotent God, remind us that it is not necessary to know everything. AMEN

Do what you can

Do what you can, with what you have, where you are —————-Theodore Roosevelt

Too often we do nothing because we think we don’t have anything worth while. Then nothing gets done. We can always do something. If that something is your best then it is enough.

focus

Lord God, remind us to use what we have, where we are to help the world. AMEN

Music can take us to God

O Lord, hear my prayer..………Taize Music

Today while writing for my blog worrylessjourney.com  I was reminded how much I love the music of the Taize community in France. Their meditative songs help me to focus. The Quakers have a term “center down” and these songs help us to do that. Music can bring us close to God.

Listen to this sung prayer and reach out to God. AMEN

Tell God

Trouble is a part of your life, and if you don’t share it, you don’t give the person who loves you a chance to love you enough. ——-Dinah Shore

God knows

I have always felt that sharing problems cuts them in half. I know that not everyone feels this way. However, we need to share our woes with the person who loves us the most, God almighty.

We don’t stop enough and spend time with God. We don’t pour out our hearts and seek the soothing peace of God. Tell God your problems and leave them at his feet.

Loving God, you are waiting for us to reach out to you. You are willing to shoulder our worries. Help us to seek you. AMEN

Pretty much all the honest truthtelling there is in the world is done by children.——Anon

god can handle

Children do tell the truth. Sometimes a truth we would rather they didn’t tell. But we are called to be as children in the presence of God. God wants us to come to him wide open with no doors closed. God wants the truth…the truth about us. God wants us to share with Him and let him know our fears, our sins, and our joys. Share with God. Be as children. He will understand.

Loving God, help us to share all that we are with you. AMEN

Nothing is too small

Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it. ——-Buddha

We all want to do some great work and change the world. We keep trying to find our niche. The problem is that our niche may be the simplest thing. Each thing we do matters. There is nothing too small. Just taking food to someone sick may be the thing you are called to do. Don’t waste time trying to be things you are not. Be the best you- you can be.

everything matters

Imaginative God, help us to see that everything matters and no job is too small. AMEN

Speak out

Hate is not the opposite of love; apathy is. –———-Rollo May

Apathy is a dangerous thing. It can lead us to do nothing and see a Hitler arise. We have to speak out against evil. We cannot ignore it. We cannot wait for someone else to take care of it. We must speak.

Jesus never sat back. He always spoke out.

speak out

Gracious Lord, help us to have the strength to speak up against evil. Help us to not be afraid. AMEN
