We are what we think

Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Many times I have heard people say, “you are what you eat.” It seems to me that we are also what we think, If we spend all of our live talking about bad or unhappy things, then we are unhappy. If we concentrate on happy things, then our outlook is different. This piece of scripture hits the nail on the head. We need to be thinking of noble, right, pure, lovely and admirable things.

We spend a lot of time asking God for things. We beg for healing, money, friends. How much time do we spend thanking him? We are so blessed. Having lived in a third world country, I know just how much more we have than most people. Yet we are always asking for more. Give thanks every day for the things you have.

As a Christian I believe that I came from God. That God dwells within in me and is part of my life. In the big scheme of things does it matter where I am going as long as it is to God. If I keep my eye on Him nothing else is important. I came from Him, I go back to Him. That is all.

Omnipotent God, you created us all. Help us to seek you in all that we do and return to you at our end. AMEN

Families are the compass

compassIn today’s world the family is at risk. Too many are floundering. We have lost our center. Families are the moral compass that holds us together.  Too many are floundering. We need the support and guidance that the family provides. We also need the love. We must teach about the love of God and his importance to our lives. Parents have to be a living example of that love.

 

God our Father, we need your help, guidance and love to be the parents you have called us to be. Be with us each and every day. AMEN

 

Be thankful

Who is wise? He that learns from everyone.

Who is powerful? He that governs his passions. 

Who is rich? He that is content. 

Who is that? Nobody. ————————Benjamin Franklin

How content are we? Franklin says that no one is content and he may be right. How grateful are we for everything that we have? Do we appreciate the things we have instead of longing for what we don’t have?

We have to spend time thanking God for all the gifts of this life. Make a list and thank God each day. Use the list for your prayers.

I don’t know

I am not young enough to know everything. ————-Oscar Wilde

This “tongue in cheek” quote by Wilde is completely true. When we are young we think that we know everything. It is a shock when we discover that we know nothing. Science would like us to think that we can know everything but even science is not omnipotent. Science scoff at those of us who want to believe more but it is what I choose. God is omnipotent. He does know everything. His wisdom is beyond our understanding.

Too often we do nothing because we think we don’t have anything worth while. Then nothing gets done. We can always do something. If that something is your best then it is enough.
